What are summary sheets?

These are short, easy-to-understand handouts that help you explore topics covered in your sessions. They sometimes include practice tools, reflections, questions, exercises or anything that was useful in your meeting. Your coaching or counselling sessions are not memory tests, these sheets allow for clients to refer to them outside of the session so they can access support whenever they need it.

Is everything confidential?

Absolutely. Everything discussed in your sessions remains strictly confidential unless there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Elliot works in line with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) Code of Ethics. You can find a copy here of the NCPS Code of Ethics.

Can I try one session before committing?

Yes. All clients are requested to book a Free Consultation to see if the service and the professional relationship is the right fit for them. Elliot would refer the client to another professional if this would best support them instead. There is no commitment to book the next session after the free consultation, the client can choose to book another session if they would like the support discussed in the consultation.

What do I need to do before the meeting?

After you have booked, check that you have received the confirmation email and that the video link works on the device that you are going to use. The video link is for often for Google Meet.

On the day and at the time of the appointment, click the video link up to 5 minutes before and start the conversation. As easy as that. Nothing else is needed.

What is the difference between Coaching and Counselling services?

Counselling involves listening to and helping the client understand their own thoughts and feelings through questions and giving the client a safe space to share their experiences. This can be very helpful for several reasons such as feeling able to let go of past events and to consequently be better prepared for the future. Elliot's role as counselor is not to offer advice but emphatically listen to how not only what the client is saying and ask questions to help the client reflect and reach their own conclusions. Afterall, there are no right answers when it comes to your own experiences.

Coaching involves working towards a goal and will often include tailored step-by-step suggestions to help improve the clients chances of attaining those goals. The suggestions are always optional and the client is always encouraged to lean into their own style. The goal is not to be the best imitator of someone else but the best version of yourself. Coaching involves more input and stronger guidance than counselling.

Elliot changes the extent he counsels or gives advice depending on the service but in reality both are featured to some degree in all services as both approaches have merit.
